Whole Person Development

***Whole Person Development: What is it and why is it important?***

Reaching the end of September, almost all UK universities have kicked off their first academic term. Here in Cambridge, the first term (Michaelmas term) starts however, on the 1st of October. It seems that the college libraries are once again filled with brilliant minds and devoted souls. KnewSTEP is also very dedicated to preparing our spring and summer projects, and our team shall be working days and nights to continue modifying our personalised curriculum design to best promote whole person development of our learners.

The concept of whole person development can be referred as the ‘’holistic development of a person’s actions and behaviours as compared to just acquisition of specific content knowledge.’’ (IGI Global, 2016). It is not difficult to find that people are very familiar with the term ‘IQ’ (Intelligence Quotient), ‘EQ’ (Emotional Quotient) and possibly ‘SQ’ (Social Quotient); however, fewer people have heard about the term ‘AQ’ (Adversity Quotient), ‘CQ’ (Cultural Quotient) and even an emergent concept of ‘FQ’ (Financial Intelligent Quotient). All of the above contribute to the whole development of a person. In the coming few days, we will be discussing some of these intelligences and get to know what they are and aren’t about.
