Honorary Advisor – Dr. James Underwood

Dr. James Underwood is a Principal Lecturer in the Faculty of Education and Humanities at the University of Northampton. He leads and teaches on a range of masters’ courses at the university, several of which focus on school improvement through teacher research and teacher leadership. James taught for 19 years before becoming a lecturer at the University of Northampton. The majority of this time was in the British state sector, in secondary schools. He was also a senior leader of schools in the state secondary sector and more briefly in the private international sector. He completed his doctorate in education at the Faculty of Education, at the University of Cambridge. His research interests include: the nature of professional communities, non-positional leadership, using practitioner research to achieve change in schools and communities, methodologies for teacher research, and teaching approaches in higher education among others.
