Kaleidoscope Conference 2019

4th June 2019

//Being dedicated to education is always the philosophy of KnewSTEP Education//

Dr. Winnie Sin Wai Pui was invited to attend Kaleidoscope Conference 2019 on behalf of the KnewSTEP Education Group on 31st May 2019. Kaleidoscope was an annual two-day international conference hosted by research students at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge. The name of conference ‘Kaleidoscope’ stands for萬花筒 (WanHuaTong) in Chinese, meaning diversified and ever changeable, which matches the theme of this year’s Conference topic as “crossroads in Education: How do theory, policy and practice intersect around the globe?” Dr Pui presented her research “Teaching through Play” in an afternoon workshop at the conference, and at the same time shared her career progression and experience with research students studying at the Faculty of Education.

Mr. Hung Piu LEUNG, the executive director of KnewSTEP Education Group said: “It is KnewSTEP Education’s honour to contribute our effort to Kaleidoscope Education Conference of Cambridge University and its cultural exchange’. He also wishes to continue working with Kaleidoscope Education Conference on academic exchange activities in the future, so as to promote the educational culture and research around the globe. Dr Pui also advised the postgraduate students at the conference that “the journey for research and academic career might not be the easiest; therefore it is important to remind oneself why we chose to study a particular programme at the first place. Certainly, academia is not only way out after their graduation. Research students should also consider careers outside the academia and think about how to contribute to and apply their study onto our society”. She also encourages research students dream bigger and will not set any limits for themselves. They shall listen to their heart and endeavour to make our world a better place.

Invited by the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge, Dr Pat Thomson of the University of Nottingham and Dr James Underwood of University of Northampton were the keynote speakers for this year’s Kaleidoscope Conference.
