“Inclusive Education: Theory and Practice” workshop

//KnewSTEP co-organised a teacher training workshop on Inclusive Education with Macau DSEJ to support the development of inclusive education in Macao//

On March 13, KnewSTEP co-organised a teacher training workshop “Inclusive Education: Theory and Practice” workshop with Macau’s Education and Youth Affairs Bureau. The workshop was led by KnewSTEP’s deputy director Dr. Winnie Sin Wai Pui at Luso-Chinesa de Luís Gonzaga Gomes Secondary School. There were altogether 30 teachers and school leaders from a wide range of schools in Macau attending the workshop. The aim of the training was to improve the teaching, supporting systems and techniques of teachers when they are responding to students’ educational needs. Over the workshop, participants also shared their experience and discussed strategies in developing effective teaching approach for inclusive education.

The workshop covered the following areas:
1. Reflect on the definition of Inclusive Education;
2. Explore the possible ways to promote integrated education in schools;
3. Discuss the ways to apply Self-regulation strategies to lesson planning and design, and therefore be able to effectively respond to students’ educational needs;
4. Discuss the small group working modules of Inclusive Education.

With the interactive illustration by Dr. PUI, participants were deeply engaged in the Inclusive Education workshop. Aligned with KnewSTEP’s philosophy, educators should respect the uniqueness of each child and tailor our teaching to suit the needs of each individual. Personalised teaching and learning is shaped according to every student’s aptitude and learning needs. We believe that every child is so very unique and has unlimited potentials to shine.

//About Dr. Winnie Sin Wai PUI//

Dr. Winnie Sin Wai Pui was born and bred in Macao. She has carried out all sort of teaching and research works in different institutes in Macao. She obtained both Master and Doctoral degree in the University of Cambridge, specialising in merging education and special education curriculum design, the effect of student’s ability of self-regulation towards studying, and qualitative research on education research methodology.

In recent years, Dr. Pui devoted to research and developing different curricula, providing guidance to students on their academic path, as well as training professional teachers. Earlier this year, Dr. Pui accepted the invitation to be the Deputy Director of KnewSTEP Education to provide cultural exchange and learning experience to students and teachers in Guangdong-Hong Kong- Macao Greater Bay Area.
