Four stages of teacher development

//Most likely we have heard of teacher training, however, have you ever heard of the four stages of teacher development?//

According to Cambridge English Teaching Framework, there are four stages of teacher professional developments, which are 1) Foundation, 2) Developing, 3) Proficient and 4) Expert. Each stage covers five categories of teaching knowledge and skills, which describe the key competencies for effective teaching.

For example, teachers who want to start their English as a Second Language (ESL) may wish to study CELTA, which is a practical English language teaching qualification that gives the essential knowledge and hands-on teaching experience; while some developing teachers prefer to study TKT to prove their teaching knowledge with a globally recognised certificate. For teachers who have completed CELTA and wish to deepen their knowledge and understanding of English, they will then progress to study DELTA, which is an advanced blend of theory and practice that will provide the skills and techniques to help teachers develop professionally throughout their career.
