The time when KnewSTEP students have volunteered for a better environment in Cambridge
20th September 2019
Our students from Cambridge Summer Project 2019 have already returned home to start their new school year. However, we believe that our students not only brought back the knowledge they have acquired this summer but also a lifelong memory and experience that they had here in Cambridge. To support the theme of our Summer Project this year – “Sustainable Development”, KnewSTEP Education partnered with RECOUP Environmental Recycling Organisation to organise a volunteering event on 27 July 2019 at the Stourbridge Common. The event was fully supported by Cambridge City Council, which aimed to inspire future young leaders to contribute to the sustainable development of the society and raise recycling awareness in the community, while at the same time supported the environmental charity work that RECOUP has long been dedicated to.
Even though it was drizzling that morning, our students insisted on carrying on with their volunteer activities. Under the pre-briefing delivered by a representative of Cambridge City Council, our students have learnt more about the classification of recycling in the UK. KnewSTEP Education always believed that “Whole-Person Development” is not merely about provide students with a variety of subject courses such as STEM, or Arts and Humanities; it also addresses other broader aspects such as social interpersonal skills and the awareness of environmental conservation. We hope to educate our students to be global citizens and encourage our students to be more socially responsible through actively participating in community services as such.
Perhaps Cambridge is not only famous for its students’ pursuit of self-actualisation and outstanding academic research, it is also, the students’ ambitions and visions to give back to the world that make Cambridge a very different place. In 2020, KnewSTEP Education will continue to deliver “Dream Beyond” Scholarship Scheme. We have increased the number of scholarship holders to 4 places in the coming year, and the scheme will be welcome young people aged 10-19 from all regions to participate. We hope, through the scholarship scheme, it will aspire more young people to dare to dream, and to have the opportunity to study in Cambridge. For those who are interested in the scheme, stay tuned to our social media platforms. More details will be released in early October. In 2020, KnewSTEP continues to strive for excellence and deliver the best education possible to our students. We invite you to dream beyond, and learn beyond with us.
