Experience the aesthetic atmosphere with us in Cambridge this summer!
30th November 2018
We mentioned about how technology are becoming so advanced these days in our last post. However, technology cannot replace the innated aesthetic skills of human beings, which is one of the important links that KnewSTEP Education emphasised in Whole-Person Development. Have you ever heard of choral music, or even the organ under the effect of echoing in church/ chapel/ cathedral? 🎶 And how about watching a play on open grass in university colleges? Our Summer Project 2019 will take participants to experience the annual Cambridge Summer Music Festival and Shakespeare Festival🎭, where they will have the chance to indulge in the aesthetic atmosphere in Cambridge, from historical music performance to highly visual theatre. 🤗
This year is the 40th anniversary of Cambridge Summer Music Festival. For 40 years, it has been attracting numerous audiences to enjoy the high-quality music show. The festival included multiple genres of music. Apart from the mainstream Classical Music, there are other modern music genres such as jazz or funk. Students can choose from traditional strings 🎻to historical organ music performed in a church building (so called “One man orchestra”), as well as choir performance and modern jazz🎷. Students could also choose other music genres that they are interested in, such as the folk music. We believe these concerts could help develop students’ aesthetic appreciation, while they can enjoy music from a different perspective.

Cambridge’s Shakespeare Festival 🎭 has 31 years of history. It has also attracted numerous audience who enjoyed drama from all over the world. Audiences will be watching the performance while enjoying a picnic at the university college garden, before sitting back to enjoy spectacular plays of Shakespeare by actors wearing full period costumes with live Elizabethan music. Shakespeare was widely (or perhaps globally) regarded as the greatest writer and dramatist in the Western history of literature and art. His 38 dramas plotline had specific social content with distinctive colour of the period and comprehensive vocabularies. We believed students can also learn more English while enjoying the drama.
